Mark Allen
Mark Allen is a graduate of Iowa City Regina High School where he
participated in football and wrestling. He also was active in the school
newspaper and theater departments. His college years were spent at St.
Ambrose University where he graduated in 1992.
A 12-year radio career began in Davenport, Iowa and continued in Iowa City.
Mark spent many of those years broadcasting high school football,
basketball, baseball and softball games.
An opportunity to become a member of the University of Iowa radio network
was presented, and Mark soon found himself doing play by play for Iowa
wrestling and baseball. Mark eventually became the sideline reporter for
Iowa Football and was the voice of the Iowa Womens Basketball team.
Mark's full-time job now is with Edward Jones as an Investment
Representative. He and his wife Emily live in Newton with their two
children. Mark continues to do morning sports for 1040 WHO radio in Des
Moines and is very excited to be a part of the IHSSN.
Chuck Reed
Chuck came to Iowa in 1981 from Munster, Indiana to attend Drake University. In
1983, he began working at KCCI-TV in Des Moines in the sports department and
worked there until 1996. At KCCI, Reed photographed, reported, anchored, and even
produced the Jim Walden Coach’s Show for seven years.
Reed can still be seen on the sidelines of high school football games all across Iowa as
he works with “The Friday Night Blitz” on WOI-TV in Des Moines, and can be heard
filling in on “Des Moines Sports Station” KXNO radio. In addition, he can be seen as a
handicapper at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino during the horseracing season.
Chuck is employed full-time as the Media Relations Coordinator for the American
Cancer Society and lives in West Des Moines with his wife and two daughters.

Lee Hughes
Lee Hughes joined the Iowa High School Sports Network full-time October 1, 2007.
Lee has been in the radio broadcasting business for nearly 35 years—the last 26
with KMA in Shenandoa, Iowa.
Lee served as sports director for 20 of those years at KMA and did play-by-play for approximately
20 high school football games and some 60 to 70 high school basketball games each year, as well
as covering high school baseball, softball, track and field, wrestling, and volleyball.
Lee has received Outstanding Media Awards from the Iowa High School Athletic
Directors Association, the Iowa Football Coaches Association, the Iowa Baseball Coaches
Association, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and numerous awards from the
Associated Press and the Iowa Broadcasters Association for high school sports
play-by-play and sports reporting.
Lee is the father of two daughters, three stepsons, and 12 grandchildren.
